Three Pelagic Fisheries Management Plans - Business and Regulatory Impact Assessment (BRIA)

This partial business and regulatory impact assessment (BRIA) describes the anticipated economic impact of the three proposed fisheries management plans (FMPs) for pelagic fish stocks on the fishing sector and associated businesses.

Footnotes

1 The relevant UK fisheries authorities for the pelagic FMPs are the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government (two of the plans), the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland

2 Annex A of the JFS was amended in December 2024.

3 Should be noted that the ICES category is primarily a classification of the evidence available for a stock and is not a rating of how healthy the stock is.

4 ICES 2026 - Greater silver smelt (Argentina silus) in subareas 1, 2, and 4 and in Division 3.a (Northeast Arctic, North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat)

5 Fisheries Act 2020

6 consumption by one user reduces the amount available to others
