1. What is the Tax Literacy guide?
This is a guide to improving communications on tax and tax policy. It sets out a systematic approach to designing, implementing and evaluating tax communications. It has been adapted from an approach developed by Ernst and Young, who we commissioned to research international best practice in tax communication. Their full research paper has also been published and is available here.
Communications are currently developed using a variety of approaches. This guide is intended to be an additional tool to draw upon when thinking about designing and delivering tax communications.
At the end of the guide, there are some suggested objectives to consider when designing communications, links to existing sources of tax information and a glossary of commonly used tax terms.
