What is the Consultation Survey on Anne’s Law about?
During the COVID-19 pandemic some people living in care homes were unable to see their family and friends for a long time.
This was very hard. Having visits from family and friends was very important to them.
This was also hard for family and friends who wanted to visit loved ones in care homes.
Because of this, Scottish Ministers said they would make a new law.
A Minister is someone who works as the head of a government department.
The new law makes sure that people living in adult care homes can have visits with their loved ones.
The new law is known as Anne’s Law. This is in memory of Anne Duke who could not see her family for a long time during the pandemic.
Anne’s Law is part of the Care Reform Scotland Act.
An Act is a law that has been passed by the Parliament.
The new law says that there needs to be regulations and a Code of Practice for Anne’s Law.
Regulations are rules made by an authority, like the government.
A Code of Practice helps people to understand the rules. It explains the law.
The regulations will tell care home providers what their new duties are.
Duties are things that must be done.
