Student mental health action plan: Fairer Scotland Duty summary

Assessment of how the Student Mental Health Action Plan contributes to the reduction of inequalities of outcome caused by socio-economic disadvantage. This is in line with the Fairer Scotland Duty (the Duty), Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Summary of Policy

The Student Mental Health Action Plan (“the Action Plan”) sets a mainstreamed approach to student mental health, in joining up support that is already available (through NHS Boards, local councils, Public Health Scotland and community based providers), embedding students into the wider communities in which they live and study.

As a result of the proposed actions, we anticipate an improved offering of mental health support for students.

We believe that by fully accessing the wide range of preventative, supportive and clinical services locally provided by the public and third sector, and by working collaboratively, student mental health and wellbeing can be nurtured, and students supported through their education journey, enabling them to achieve their aspirations.
