As part of work to tackle cladding issues we want to gather information on buildings where a cladding or fire risk assessment has already been done and highlights a risk to life as a result of the cladding system, materials used and/or poor construction. This will allow us to build on assessments that have already been undertaken.
By starting with those buildings with known issues, the pilot phase of Single Building Assessment will be able to quickly establish on a consistent and robust basis, what the remediation need is, the reasons for that, position of developer and what support from public funds can be provided.
We are opening an expression of interest process starting from 31 March 2021. Only one expression of interest is needed for each building so if you are an individual flat owner you might want to consult your property manager or residents’ association first.
We know that it has been difficult in some cases for homeowners to get the agreement they need from others to undertake assessments. Because of this we are not saying you need to get this agreement now. However, it might save time later on in the process if you do have the agreement that is needed.
The Expression of Interest process runs until 25 May 2021. The date an Expression of Interest is received within this period, or the number of Expressions of Interest per building does not change how your building is considered. One Expression of Interest is enough at any point within the 8 weeks. Confirmation of the pilot scheme, subject to the views of an incoming Government, will come at the end of this 8 week period.
Don’t worry if you can’t complete all of the information on the form about your building.
