Scottish Social Attitudes Survey 2025: Technical Report

Technical report supporting the Scottish Social Attitudes Survey 2025 core module and attitudes towards discrimination module.

3 Question design

The questions funded by the Scottish Government, including the Core module and the questions on attitudes towards discrimination were largely repeated questions from previous years of the survey. The few questions that were new to this survey were pre-established questions asked on other surveys. As such the questions on this module were well-established and therefore did not require cognitive testing or piloting. The same applied to the questions on the survey funded by the Cabinet Office. The questions asked in this version of the survey are provided in Appendix B.

The questions funded by ESRC were developed jointly by Strathclyde University and ScotCen and were then included on the pilot of the survey. Some minor amendments were made to the questions in response to the findings of the pilot.
