Scottish School Milk Subsidy Scheme - Equality Impact Assessment Results

Equality Impact Assessment results relating to the Scottish School Milk Subsidy Scheme

Recommendations and Conclusion

As a result of the Equality Impact Assessment we have concluded that the design of the new scheme has the potential to:

  • Reach a larger number of pupils, supporting both health and family income inequalities.
  • Provide for a wider range of dietary needs by including non-dairy alternative drinks or fruit/vegetable offer where pupils are unable or choose not to consume dairy advancing equality of opportunity and removing barriers to participation.
  • Support pupils to learn about different dietary habits, fostering good relations with equality groups.

With these benefits in mind it is recommended that the Scottish School Milk Subsidy Scheme is established and replaces the UK scheme from August 2024.
