Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2024: Support and Information for People Receiving Cancer Care

This report presents additional analysis of the Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2024.


Key points

People’s experience of cancer care in Scotland is generally very positive. At national level, 95% of patients rated their overall care positively. The analysis shows that, compared with figures at national level (i.e. compared to all patients in Scotland):

Overall experience

  • people with gynaecological cancer were less likely to rate their overall care positively, and people with haematological cancer more likely to rate it positively

Mode of appointment

  • people living in remote rural areas were more likely to have telephone and videocall appointments, and less likely to have face-to-face appointments

Information and support

  • people aged 75 or older were less likely to feel supported practically, emotionally or psychologically by charity, voluntary or community groups during their cancer treatment
  • people with gynaecological cancer were less likely to receive all the information needed to help care for them at home
