Responding to Substance Use (Including Vapes and Other Nicotine Products) in Schools - equality impact assessment

Equality Impact assessment for the guidance on Responding to substance use (including vapes and other nicotine products) in schools

Executive summary

The Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) considered the guidance on responding to substance use in schools (including vapes and other nicotine products). The guidance seeks, through non-statutory advice, to support schools and education authorities to respond effectively to substance use by children and young people, within a wider whole-school approach to relationships, behaviour, wellbeing and safeguarding.

The guidance provides clarity to education authorities, schools, staff, parents and partners on developing local policies and responses that are proportionate, consistent and focused on wellbeing. It emphasises prevention, early intervention and partnership working, while ensuring that school environments remain safe, inclusive and supportive for all children and young people.
