Measuring biodiversity: research into approaches

This report considers methodologies for measuring biodiversity at site-level for use in Scotland.

The authors would like to thank members of the project steering group from the Scottish Government and NatureScot for their input and guidance throughout the project and in the preparation of this report.

The learnings and recommendations outlined in this report are the result of consultations with a wide range of interested parties engaged across the four policy areas – agriculture, conservation, planning and development and natural capital in Scotland. Seventy-two participants kindly participated in the engagement process.

This report was prepared by Alistair McVittie (Research Fellow, SRUC), Lorna Cole (Senior Consultant, SAC Consulting), Julia McCarthy (Research Associate, SRUC), Harry Fisher (Consultant Ecologist, SAC Consulting), and Dr Hannah Rudman (Reader) of Scotland's Rural College (SRUC).
