Public appointment: Members appointed to the Board of Scottish Futures Trust

The Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government, Shona Robison MSP, today announced the appointment of Alistair Brown and Mark Dickson as Members of the Board of Scottish Futures Trust.

Members

Alistair Brown has over three decades experience in financial leadership within large and complex organisations delivering high level financial management, strategic advice, and oversight to advance organisational goals and enhancing fiscal accountability. His governance and strategic oversight has been built in a number of roles including Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee for The Avenues Group and as a Non-Executive Director for the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust.

Mark Dickson is an experienced Non-Executive Director and independent consultant supporting the delivery of infrastructure projects, and transformation of infrastructure delivery in the Water and Wastewater sector.  Formerly Director of Capital Investment at Scottish Water he was accountable for the development of business plans and transformation plans to ensure delivery of £5 billion investment in maintenance and improvements to Scotland's water and wastewater infrastructure.

Appointments

The appointments are for four years from 1 May 2025 to 30 April 2029.

The appointments are regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration and time commitment

The appointments attract remuneration of £368.00 per day for a time commitment of two days per month.

Other Ministerial appointments

Alistair Brown and Mark Dickson do not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Alistair Brown and Mark Dickson have had no political activity within the last five years.

The Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) is a public body which provides independent expert advice to the Scottish Government and is Scotland’s infrastructure centre of expertise.

Its purpose is to drive best practice in strategy, investment, delivery and management of Scotland’s infrastructure. Working collaboratively across the public and private sectors, SFT delivers change and brokers solutions by deploying industry-leading skills and deep experience.
