Public appointment: Interim Chair appointed to the Board of Glasgow Kelvin College

The Minister for Innovation, Technology and Tertiary Education today announced the Interim Chair appointment of Dr Dermot Grenham to the Board of Glasgow Kelvin College.

 

Interim Chair

Dermot Grenham has been a member of the Board of Management of Glasgow Kelvin College for the past 5 years and chair of the Audit and Risk committee for the past 2 years. He is the Company Actuary of the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland, and a member of the Council of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He has lectured at the London School of Economics and holds a doctorate in mathematics from Oxford University.

Dermot brings a wealth of experience of the education sector, of finance and risk management, and of working with various Boards. This will enable him to lead Kelvin’s Board of Management and ensure that it fulfils its role of providing constructive challenge and support to the college’s Executive and Senior Management for the benefit of its students, staff and its wider community.

 

Appointment

This appointment will run from 15 August 2026, for a maximum period of 12 months.

This appointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

 

Remuneration

This appointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £211 per day for a time commitment of up to 104 days per year.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan

recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Dermot has had no political activity within the last five years.

Glasgow Kelvin College, located in the north and east of Glasgow, is a modern further education institution formed in 2013 through the merger of John Wheatley, Stow and North Glasgow Colleges.
