Public appointment: Chair reappointed to Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health and Social Care, Michael Matheson MSP today announced the reappointment of Mrs Lesley Bowie as Chair of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board.

Chair

Lesley Bowie worked within the IT sector for more than 30 years, with major Global companies. She brings a wealth of experience to the NHS Ayrshire and Arran Board including managerial, operational, client engagement, finance, supply chain operations, programme management and change management. Lesley has significant experience in leading and delivering major international transformation programmes.

She was a Non-Executive Board Member of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board for over six years before she was appointed as Board Chair in March 2020, and is delighted to be reappointed for a second term as Board Chair.

Reappointment

Ms Bowie’s re-appointment will be for four years and will run from 1 March 2024 to 29 February 2028.

The appointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

The appointment is part-time and attracts an annual remuneration of £33,351 for a time commitment of 156 days per year.

Other ministerial appointments

Mrs Bowie does not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Mrs Bowie has had no political activity over the last five years.

Background

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 400,000 people living in the area, and provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute hospital services for the population.
