Provisional Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics 2025

Provisional Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics is an Accredited Official Statistics publication produced by the statistics team within the Scottish Government Marine Directorate to provide summary provisional information on the Scottish fishing industry. The statistics presented in this publication and supplementary tables include summary provisional data on fish landings by Scottish registered vessels, the size of the Scottish fishing fleet, and the number of fishers working in Scotland and UK quota uptake in 2025. This data will be updated in the Final Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics 2025, which are preannounced for publication in September 2026. For paper based returns there is often a time lag between actual landings and sales and the receipt and entry of this information into the fisheries database. This late entry of information can cause changes between provisional and final statistics for a given year. In 2023 and 2024 there was a three percent increase in total tonnage and four percent increase in total value between provisional and final statistics. Table 52 of the Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics 2024 gives the change by year for 2020 to 2024.

All landing tonnages are given in terms of live weight equivalent. Overall financial values in the publication text are generally provided adjusted to 2025 prices to account for inflation (real terms). Most of the financial values in the supplementary tables are provided unadjusted for inflation (nominal terms). Year on year percentage changes in financial values are calculated at 2025 prices to adjust for inflation unless otherwise stated. The 2025 calendar year GDP deflators were used to adjust values to 2025 prices.
