Proposed Northern Shelf Ling Fisheries Management Plan
The Northern Shelf ling FMP is one of 43 UK FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS). It sets out the policies and actions to continue to maintain the relevant stock at sustainable levels providing positive socio-economic benefits to the UK.
Why an FMP for Northern Shelf ling?
Northern Shelf ling is a whitefish species caught as part of a mixed whitefish and targeted fishery within UK waters and also outwith UK waters. Ling is a species of generally lower commercial importance within UK waters, although it is a key species for the hook and longline fishing sector. In 2022, just under 5,500 tonnes of ling was landed into the UK, with a value nearing £8 million.
