Positive destinations of children with visual impairment compared to general cohort: FOI release

Information requested

Evidence of the statistical difference between positive destinations for the general school population and for those children with a visual impairment and to supply these figures for the most recent academic school year on record, as well as providing the URL with which to reference this data.

The Scottish Government publishes information on school leaver destinations in two publications.

The Summary Statistics for Attainment and Initial Leaver Destinations publication provides information on the proportion of school leavers in a positive destination 3 months after the end of the school year. Table L3.1 of the supplementary tables shows that 92.8% of 2020/21 school leavers (from mainstream secondary and special schools) with an additional support need related to a visual impairment were in a positive destination 3 months after the end of the school year. This compares to 95.5% (e.g. table 1a) of all leavers from mainstream secondary schools. Note that this figure excludes those in special schools.

The Summary Statistics for Follow-up Leaver Destinations publication provides information on the proportion of school leavers in a positive destination 9 months after then end of the school year. Table L1.4 of the supplementary tables shows that 91.5% of 2020/21 school leavers (mainstream secondary schools only) with an additional support need related to a visual impairment were in a positive destination 9 months after the end of the school year. This compares to 93.2% (e.g. table 1a) of all leavers from mainstream secondary schools.
