Planning Application Statistics 2024/25 (April 2024 to September 2024)

These statistics set out an analysis of planning applications processed by Planning Authorities including the number, and type of applications and the decision times for applications.

Numbers dipped in 2020/21 as the pandemic hit, rose in 2021/22 and fell again in 2022/23 and 2023/24. Average decision times in quarter 1 2024/25 were 35.5 weeks and 35.2 weeks in quarter 2

The number of decisions on major developments in the first two quarters of 2024/25 was 93 (there were 57 in the same period in the previous year, a 38.7 per cent increase). The average decision times for applications without processing agreements were 35.5 weeks in Q1 and 35.2 weeks in Q2 (average times for these applications can be skewed by one or two particularly large values).

Major Housing Developments

There were 39 major housing developments not subject to processing agreements decided during the first two quarters of 2024/25. The average decision times were 42.2 weeks in Q1 and 33.2 weeks in Q2 (average times for these applications can be skewed by one or two particularly large values). There were 19 applications with processing agreements. Timescales were met for 33.3 per cent in Q1 and 80 per cent in Q2.
