Appendix 3 – Mean and Median Treatment Appointments

Appointments are for individual treatment (i.e. excluding any ‘pure assessment’ appointments where treatment does not start) including DNAs and CNAs at the point of discharge but excluding patients who DNA and have zero treatment appointments at discharge. The appropriate historic period to reflect current practice will depend on the presence of any recent local changes / other relevant factors (a typical period for analysis would be the past 6 – 24 months of discharges aiming to ensure a sufficiently large sample). Commentary could include information on changes in patient acuity, guidance provided to staff, management of exceptions through supervision, gaps in data reporting for monitoring purposes. If available a current planning assumption for capacity modelling purposes can be added for each service.
