National Care Service: Health and Social Care Standards - Co-design Partnership Programme report

This is a report from sessions Scottish Government held to review the Health and Social Care Standards. These sessions were part of our Co-design Partnership Programme.

Co-design sessions

We ran 6 co-design sessions on the review of standards with people from different backgrounds and communities.

The organisations we worked with to facilitate these sessions were:

  • Next Chapter Scotland
  • Sikh Sanjog
  • MECOPP
  • Carr Gomm
  • Deaf Blind Scotland
  • Glasgow Disability Alliance

The aim of these sessions was to talk to people about:

  • if they had heard of or used the standards
  • what improvements people thought should be made to the standards
  • questions about some of our findings to date
  • how we can make the standards more accessible

The standards include over 100 individual standard statements, so considering all statements in each session would not be practical or helpful. Instead, sessions focused on the standards and themes most relevant to participants’ experiences, interests and areas of expertise. This enabled more focused and constructive discussion.

We tailored each engagement session to the specific group of attendees to ensure discussions were relevant and meaningful. Sessions were adapted in terms of content, format and engagement methods. We considered participants’ communication needs and familiarity with the standards. Some engagement sessions took place in person and some online, depending on preferences.

The dates and locations of the sessions are included below:

  • MECOPP – Edinburgh – 21 November 2025
  • Deafblind Scotland – Kirkintilloch – 26 November 2025
  • GDA – Online – 12 December 2025
  • Sikh Sanjog – Edinburgh – 10 December
  • Carr Gomm – Online – 7 January 2026
  • Next Chapters Scotland – HMP Grampian, Peterhead – 17 February 2026
