About the Health and Social Care Standards

The Health and Social Care Standards were created in 2017.

The Health and Social Care Standards describe high-quality care and support in Scotland.

The standards are there to help everyone get good care.

In September 2022 an independent review said that that we should look at these standards again. This is to:

• make them clearer
• make sure they respect people’s human rights
• focus on what matters to people.

We have now started this work to improve the standards. We want to make sure they support everyone who works in or uses health, social care or social work services.

We want to hear from lots of different people and organisations. Co-design sessions are one way we are doing this.

Co-design lets people share their ideas and tell us how to make things better.
