GDP Monthly Estimate: October 2025

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics measure changes in the output of the economy. This is an Official Statistics in Development publication for Scotland.


In October the sector with the largest positive contribution to three-month GDP growth was Professional, Scientific and Technical Services, which contributed around 0.1 percentage points towards overall growth. The largest negative contributor was Information & Communication, which contributed around -0.1 percentage points towards three-month GDP growth.

 

In the three months to October 2025, compared to the three months to July 2025, output in the Production sector is estimated to have remained flat at 0.0% growth, while the services sector is estimated to have grown by 0.3%. Construction sector output contracted by 0.3% in the three months to October.

 

As reported by the Office for National Statistics Businesses across the production, construction and services sectors reported that they, or their customers, were waiting for the outcome of the Autumn Budget 2025 announcement on 26 November 2025. These comments came from a range of industries, but were mainly from manufacturers, construction companies, wholesalers, computer programmers, real estate firms, and employment agencies.
