For the last 32 years my research has been in gear technology studies involving; net design, fishing gear operation and working with the Scottish fishing industry to reduce by-catch (selectivity). I am responsible and oversee all of Marine Scotland’s fishing operations and provide gear technology advice to the Scottish Government.
I collaborate with scientists across the UK and Europe, notably those involved in the International Bottom Trawl Survey Working Group (IBTSWG) and the ICES - FAO Working Group on Fishing Technology and Fish Behaviour (WGFTFB) community, and also work closely with the Scottish fishing industry.
External Committees and Responsibilities
I am responsible for the Marine Scotland Science advice to the Gear Innovation & Technology Advisory Group (GITAG) group and provide gear technology advice to the Scottish Government and international research institutes.
