Details of specialism

I currently specialise in impacts of marine renewable developments (MREDS) on seabed habitats and species. I have research experience in conservation of benthic communities, impacts of trawling on the benthos, automated image analysis, marine habitat mapping, bathymetric and side-scan survey and post-processing, underwater video and biotope classification and scientific diving.

My current role is to:

  • advise the Marine Scotland Licensing team on benthic impacts of marine renewable and marine construction casework
  • advise Scottish Government policy on conservation and sustainable exploitation of benthic species and habitats
  • identify knowledge gaps related to impacts on the benthic environment of marine renewable energy developments and facilitate research to address these
