Details of specialism
I began my career as a lab technician and studied part-time for an Open University degree in biological sciences, a PhD in molecular biology and an MBA. During this period I worked in different areas of Scottish Government aquatic sciences, as a researcher, group leader, programme manager and Director of Science.
I was the first Head of Professional Development for Science in the Scottish Government and retain professional links and an active interest in this area.
I currently have responsibility for the information management, science quality management and statistics groups and coordinating the Marine and Freshwater Science Delivery Strategy. I am also active in promoting diversity, equality and inclusion within science and engineering areas of the Scottish Government, and across Marine Scotland. This includes responsibility for the Marine Scotland Science Athena SWAN project and an area of the Marine Scotland People Strategy.
