Details of specialism

I work within the Marine Environmental Assessment Group that provides advice and undertakes monitoring of the marine environment; including measurements of contamination concentrations in sediment, fish and water, the effects of contaminant exposure upon wildlife and the assessment of environmental status. The data is reported to the UK’s Marine Environment Monitoring and Assessment National Database (MERMAN). 

Within the broad topic area of the group my particular focuses are: 

  • trace metal analysis of sediment and biota
  • organotin analysis of sediment 
  • determination of total organic carbon (TOC) in sediment
  • comet assay and stress on stress method within mussels 
  • separation and identification of microplastics in water, sediment and biota samples
  • offshore sampling
