Research Interests

I have been involved in a variety of research projects including commercial fisheries (fishing intensity layers, ScotMap, fisheries displacement modelling), marine mammals (the East Coast Marine Mammal Acoustic study), sea birds (Large Gulls Foraging Behaviour study), bathymetric surveys, ecosystem services evaluation, and other geospatial projects (participatory mapping, touchtables).

My current research focuses on the potential consequences of renewable energy developments on commercial fisheries both offshore and inshore. Recently, I started working on the development of a stochastic (bio-economic, multistock-multifishery) individual-based (i.e. on a per-vessel basis) model to study fishing effort displacement and the effect on vessels' fishing efficiency resulting from renewable energy sites.
