Details of specialism

My research interest is focused on the behavioural responses of marine species during fishing operations and how they can be exploited, along with fishing gear modifications, to improve gear selectivity and minimise bycatch and discards.

Within the broad topic area my particular focuses currently include tank and field behavioural experiments on:

• gadoid behaviour in response to light stimulus and its application on improving bycatch reduction lights (BRLs) and bycatch reduction devices (BRDs)
• sorting grids, sorting boxes and square mesh panels
