In the year ending June 2025 Scotland’s goods exports to the EU decreased by 5% to £8.4 billion since the previous year.
Over this period the greatest decreases were in Chemical materials & products (down 29%), Organic chemicals (down 53%) and General industrial machinery (down 17%). Chemical materials & products accounted for around a fifth of the total decline in EU exports and was the largest driver of the overall decrease.
The largest positive changes for EU exports were seen in Power generating machinery (up 8%), Metalliferous ores & metal scrap (up 70%) and Telecomms & sound recording (up 14%).

Over the longer term Scotland’s goods exports to the EU have decreased by 21% since the base period.
The decline for Scotland over this period was driven by Apparel & clothing (down 87%), Professional & scientific instruments (down 63%) and Other manufactured articles (down 65%).
