Goods exports to the EU

In the year ending March 2025 Scotland’s goods exports to the EU decreased by 8% to £8.0 billion since the previous year.

Over this period the greatest decreases were in General industrial machinery (down 28%), Organic chemicals (down 57%) and Chemical materials & products (down 26%). General industrial machinery accounted for around a fifth of the total decline in EU exports and was the largest driver of the overall decrease.

The largest positive changes for EU exports were seen in Fish and shellfish (up 8%), Plastics in primary forms (up 29%) and Other manufactured articles (up 15%).

Over the longer term Scotland’s goods exports to the EU have decreased by 21% since the base period.

The decline for Scotland over this period was driven by Apparel & clothing (down 85%), Chemical materials & products (down 51%) and Organic chemicals (down 78%).
