The EU remains Scotland’s top destination, accounting for around 38% of the value of Scotland’s total goods exports.
In the most recent 12 months, Scotland’s goods exports to the EU decreased by 8% to £8 billion since the previous year.
The greatest decreases in exports to the EU over this period were in General industrial machinery (down 28%), Organic chemicals (down 57%) and Chemical materials & products (down 26%). General industrial machinery accounted for almost a third of all declines in EU exports and was the largest driver of the overall decrease.
The largest positive changes for EU exports were seen in Fish and shellfish (up 8%), Plastics in primary forms (up 29%) and Other manufactured articles (up 15%).

The largest increases in goods exports in the last 12 months has been to Latin America and the Caribbean (up 69%) and North America (up 3%), though these are outweighed by decreases in exports to the EU (down 8%) and the Middle East and North Africa (down 28%).
