Guidance on protecting teachers and support staff from cuts: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

In the statement to parliament on 7th Feb 2023, Shirley-Anne Somerville said she would provide further guidance to Scottish local authorities on protecting teachers and support staff from cuts.

Please provide the all detailed guidance to Glasgow City Council or its councillors on this matter to date.

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because exemptions under section s.38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA applies to that information. This exemption is not subject to the 'public interest test', so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.

On 9 February the Scottish Government wrote to all local authorities outlining plans to protect teacher numbers, pupil support staff and learning hours. You may wish to note that an error was identified in the financial allocations cited in the original letter issued to Glasgow City Council, with a correction issued immediately thereafter. To avoid possible confusion, the appended text in Enclosure 01.1 is the corrected version.
