Transport Scotland - Scottish Transport Projects Review queries and A1 traffic count information: FOI release

Information requested

1. Could you inform me of the date of publication of the STPR2, (Scottish Transport Projects Review) I think it was on Dec. 8th 2022 although there may have been a draft published in early 2022.

1. Since it's publication online have there been any amendments or updates and if there have been what are they?
2. When was the original first STPR published, I think it was the autumn of either 2007 or 2008 and is there any way online I can access it?

2. I live in Berwickshire and travel on the A1 Trunk Road regularly through the county.

1. Since the start of 2006 to the present day namely 2nd June 2026 have there been any traffic counting or surveys carried of vehicle daily movements along the A1 trunk road through Berwickshire and if there have, could you tell me when the duration of and exactly where these were carried out along the trunk road.

The answer to your questions are as follows:

1. The Strategic Transport Projects Review 2 (STPR2) was published on 8 Dec 2022 and can be found on the Transport Scotland website: Final summary report - December 2022 - STPR2 | Transport Scotland

2. Since its initial publication there have been no amendments the STPR2 recommendations. However, several studies and appraisals have followed on from the recommendations of STPR2. All studies that have taken place as part of STPR2s recommendations can be found on the Transport Scotland website: Publications | Transport Scotland

3. The first STPR was published in October 2009 and can be found on the Transport Scotland website: Strategic Transport Projects Review Final Report | Transport Scotland

4. I can confirm that since 2006, there have been a number of permanent traffic count sites located on the A1 from Old Craighall to the Border. I have provided a list of these locations in the annex to this letter.

Road traffic count information is publicly available on Department for Transport website. The information available via DfT can be narrowed down to Local Authority level: Scottish Borders - Road traffic statistics.

The metadata available details of each count point in the local authority area including sites on individual roads such as the A1.
