Transport Scotland - Road traffic accident, road and lane closure data for the A75 and A77: EIR release

You asked for:

1. The number of planned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 30th April 2026.
2. The number of unplanned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 30th April 2026.
3. The number of lane closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 30th April 2026.
4. The number of road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 30th April 2026.

Q1. You asked for the number of planned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1 and 30 April 2026.

A1. There have been no planned road closures on the A75 and 11 planned road closures A77 between the 1 and 30 April 2026.

Q2. You asked for the number of unplanned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1 and 30 April 2026.

A2. There has been 2 unplanned road closures on the A75 and no unplanned road closures on the A77 between the 1 and 30 April 2026.

Q3. You asked for the number of lane closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1 and 30 April 2026.

A3. There has been 5 lane closures on the A75 and 11 lane closures of the A77 between 1 and 30 April 2026.

Q4. You asked for the number of road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and A77 between the 1 and 30 April 2026.

A4. Under the terms of the exception at regulation 10(4)(a) of the EIRs Transport Scotland is not required to provide information which it does not have. Transport Scotland does not have the information you have requested because records held by Transport Scotland relate only to collisions involving injuries or fatalities that have been reported to, and are known by, Police Scotland. As such, we do not hold records of collisions that resulted in damage only.

The data currently held only extends up to 5 April 2026. Within the period from 1 April to 5 April 2026, there were no recorded road traffic accidents on the A75 or the A77.

This exception is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exception. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exception. While we recognise that there may be some public interest in information about the number of road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and A77 between 1 and 30 April 2026, clearly we cannot provide information which we do not hold.
