Transport Scotland - number of closures and accident reports on A75 and A77 roads: EIR release

I wish to make the following freedom of information request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).

I request the following information relating to the A75 and A77 roads:

1. The number of planned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.
2. The number of unplanned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.
3. The number of lane closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.
4. The number of road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.

Response

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA.

This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request.

Q1. The number of planned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.
A1. There were zero planned road closures on the A75 and four planned road closures on the A77 within the timeframe requested.

Q2. The number of unplanned road closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.
A2. There was one unplanned road closure on the A75 and two unplanned road closures on the A77 within the timeframe requested.

Q3. The number of lane closures on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.
A3. There were five lane closures on the A75 and eighteen lane closures on the A77 within the timeframe requested.

Q4. The number of road traffic accidents reports on the A75 and A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.
A4. There have been two collisions on the A75 and two collisions on the A77 between the 1st and 31st March 2026.

Please note that the records held by Transport Scotland relate only to collisions involving injuries or fatalities that have been reported to, and are known by, Police Scotland. As such, we do not hold records of collisions that resulted in damage only.
