Caithness Hospital and blood bank inspection: FOI release

Information requested

Any information relating to the following:

1. MHRA Inspections carried out at Caithness Blood Bank in the period 1990 to 2000

2. MHRA Inspections carried out at Caithness General Hospital at Caithness Wick KW1 5LA in the period 1990 to 2000

3. Details of the blood bank service provided by Caithness Blood Bank to Caithness General Hospital at Caithness Wick KW1 5LA in the period 1990 to 2000 to include number of blood supplies made to Caithness General Hospital in 1990 to 2000.

4. Deficiencies identified at Caithness Blood Bank in Wick relation to record keeping, management of blood supplies and training in the period 1990 to 2000

5. Reasons for the closure of Caithness Blood Bank in 2006

Response

In the following response I will refer to your questions numbered 1 to 5, above.

I enclose a copy of the information you requested in relation to question 5 at Annex A to this letter.

Exemptions under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA applies to some of the information you have requested because it is personal data of a third party and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested in questions 1 to 4.
