Information requested

1. What was the total number of staff who left Scottish Government (Main) between 1 April 2025 and 31 December 2025?

2. What action has the Scottish Government taken to calculate outstanding backdated pay due to those former staff as a result of the finalisation of the 2025/26 Pay Award?

3. What action has the Scottish Government taken to inform those former staff of the outstanding backdated pay due to them as a result of the finalisation of the 2025/26 Pay Award?

4. What delivery timelines has the Scottish Government set to complete the process of providing backdated pay to former staff bearing in mind the 2025/26 public sector pay policy had set out a settlement timeline running between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026 and that currently employed staff received the backdated pay in December 2025?

Response

Response to question 1:

During the period 1 April 2025 to 31 December 2025, the number of staff who left the Scottish Government Main (SGM) bargaining unit was 569. A list of bodies covered by SGM can be found in Annex A.

Response to question 2, 3 and 4:

The pay award was finalised at the end of October 2025, with agreement to implement the terms with end-December 2025 salaries along with appropriate arrears. Employees who left the organisation after 1 April 2025 are eligible for the pay award and to receive any arrears accrued between 1 April 2025 and their departure date.

The majority of awards were processed in December with the remainder expected to be paid by March 2026. We have communicated with former employees who reached out regarding the pay award.
