Applications for Active Travel infrastructure Fund Tier 2 Design and Construction 2026-27: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Local Authorities and Regional Transport Partnerships had until 9th January to apply for Active Travel infrastructure Fund Tier 2 Design and Construction 2026-27 funds. Did you receive any applications from Aberdeen City Council or NESTRANS? If so, i) are those submissions available for public viewing and ii) what is the timeline for awarding funds to successful applicants?

Response

We can confirm that we received two applications from Aberdeen City Council, one application for ATIF Tier 2 Design and one application for ATIF Tier 2 Construction. No applications for ATIF Tier 2 Design or Construction were received from Nestrans. These applications are not available to the public.

Transport Scotland must follow a process following the publication of the Draft Scottish Budget for 2026–27 on 13 January 2026. The applications will now be assessed by Independent Consultants. Following this assessment, successful projects will be advised of their funding allocation, subject to Scottish Government budget approval and the completion of the required governance processes. We are therefore not in a position to provide a timeline for award.

We recognise the importance of early notification to support partners in planning their programmes for the year. We will issue decisions as soon as the budget position is confirmed and internal approvals are finalised.
