Scottish Public Pensions Agency - Police Pension Scheme ill health retirement queries: FOI release

Information requested

1) Exactly how many ill health retirements have been calculated incorrectly?

2) Are ill health retirees the only category affected by the erroneous calculation examples provided by the Government?

3) You previously advised (reference 202500499388) that you received no subsequent guidance in relation to the erroneous ill health pension calculations since this error was highlighted by The Home Office in February 2025. Has guidance now been sought from The Home Office in respect of how to address the error so that all those affected across the UK are treated fairly?

Response

1) 269 retired SPPA police scheme members have been affected by the calculation error that resulted from incorrect guidance received by SPPA.

2) Yes, ill health retirees are the only category of member affected by the calculation error that resulted from incorrect guidance received by SPPA.

3) The information requested is exempt from disclosure under section 35(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, as it relates to the formulation and development of Scottish Government policy.
