Transport Scotland - CalMac Ferries Ltd cancellation and maintenance data: FOI release

Information requested

1. How many CalMac ferries were cancelled due to mechanical faults in 2025? What about in 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021? Please specify what routes these ferries travelled on.

2. How many CalMac ferries were delayed by more than an hour due to mechanical faults in 2025?  What about in 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021? Please specify what routes these ferries travelled on.

3. How much money did CalMac pay out to travellers due to ferry delays or cancellations in 2025? What about in 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021?

4. How much did CalMac spend on maintenance and repairs for its ferry fleet in 2025? What about in 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021?

5. How much money did CalMac receive from the Scottish Government during 2025? What about in 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021?

I enclose a copy of most of the information you requested, detailed in Annex 1. However, it is not held in the format of calendar year as asked for.

Much of the information you have requested is available in the Public Domain. Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the website(s) listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have all the information you have requested. The information held and reasons why we don't have all the information requested is explained is detailed in Annex 1.

CalMac Ferries Ltd does not report on delayed ferry sailings as detailed in your request, and so is not available to the Scottish Government. CalMac report on, and publish, delayed arrival time of ferries in accordance with criteria set under the terms of the contract for Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services (CHFS).

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have information you have requested.
