Information requested

The definition of “political activity” with respect to the Scottish Government’s ethical standards framework requiring appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

Response

In compliance with the Code of Practice for Ministerial Appointments to Public Bodies in Scotland (2022), having partaken in political activity is defined as having:

  • Obtained office as a local Councillor, MSP, MP, MEP etc
  • Stood as a candidate for one of the above offices
  • Spoken on behalf of a party or candidate
  • Acted as a political agent
  • Held office such as chair, treasurer or secretary of a local branch of a party
  • Canvassed on behalf of a party or helped at elections
  • Undertaken any other political activity which you consider relevant
  • Made a recordable donation to a political party
