Scottish Government tickets 2026 FIFA World Cup: FOI release

Information requested

1. How many tickets have the Scottish Government requested for any World Cup 2026 games for Scottish Government staff or officials such as cabinet secretaries or the first minister?

2. If possible, can you provide a breakdown of who the tickets are for and for what games?

3. Has anyone in the Scottish Government, officials or staff, been offered tickets that aren't from the SFA?

4. Given there is an election in May has the offer of tickets to particular individuals been put on hold or have tickets been offered to the postholder, whoever they may be, after May's election?

5. Can you provide any correspondence between any minister within the Scottish Government concerning the World Cup since November 18, 2025?

6. Can you also provide any correspondence between the US Government or members of the Trump family and the Scottish Government since November 18 concerning the World Cup?

7. This may include direct correspondence between Donald Trump, his family or representatives and John Swinney or other cabinet member.

Response

In relation to points 1, 2 and 4, we have not requested any tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This is formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

In relation to point 3, the Scottish Government have not been offered any tickets by any organisation. This is formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

I have interpreted point 5 to be “correspondence between any Minister within the Scottish Government” as Minister to Minister which I have not found any. This is formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

In relation to points 6 and 7, we have completed our searches and cannot identify any information. This is formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
