Prior to the publication of the Repairing Standard Statutory Guidance in March 2023, there was no similar comprehensive guidance across the whole of the Repairing Standard. The power to issue this guidance was only passed in regulations in 2018, and the publication in March 2023 was the Scottish Government fulfilling this policy commitment for the first time. Landlords were previously required to ‘have regard to building regulations and guidance issued by Scottish Ministers on electrical safety inspections, fire and smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide alarms’.
