Information requested
On 30th June 2025 Alison Irvine Chief Executive wrote to Kate Forbes MSP about Active Travel provision in Spean Bridge and Roy Bridge. An extract from that letter stated
Separately a first draft of the report on active travel provision between Spean Bridge and Roybridge has now been received for consideration by Transport Scotland. From site visits and the topographical survey work undertaken to date, BEAR Scotland has observed constrained verge widths between Spean Bridge and Roybridge. As a result, delivering a suitably accessible route within the existing trunk road boundary would be extremely challenging. Land acquisition, significant earthworks, retaining and hydro logical design features would likely be required to deliver a facility that meets minimum prescribed width. Given the length of a route between Spean Bridge and Roybridge and the technical challenges outlined above, delivery of a facility to meet even the minimum requirements is likely to require a significant level of funding.
Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry Community Council wish to see a copy of the report on active travel provision between Spean Bridge and Roy Bridge and between Aonachan Crossroads and Spean Bridge together with any topographical surveys carried out for both routes.
