Transport Scotland - Old Shore Road, Connel accidents: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You stated - there is a proposed development of a new marina and associated houses at the south end of Old Shore Road, Connel. This proposed development is at an advanced stage.

The southerly junction where Old Shore Road meets the A85 is an awkward location where cars are accelerating out of the speed restriction towards Oban and at the end of a long straight (high speed) as they approach from Oban. There is a history of accidents at and near this junction, including 2 fatalities. The developers have not shown that they are making any significant changes to this junction that will improve safety.

This is a serious concern as the traffic at this junction is likely to increase twenty fold, many of which will be pulling boat trailers.

In order for me to convince the developers that improved road safety should be at the centre of this development

You requested: details of all accidents at and near this junction.

On 17 November 2025 we asked you to confirm the date parameters for the information you requested.

On 17 November 2025 you replied confirming "The date you requested is the 20 Dec. Also to be more specific regarding the location, it is the western entrance to Old Shore Road."
