Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) 2024 Police Pay award information: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

You asked for the following information:

1. What date will we expect to be paid the backdated monies?
2. How will this information be communicated, letter, email, member portal? If the latter in which section?
3. How many retired officers need to have re calculations done?
4. Will all retired officers receive the backdated pay at the same time or in batches? If in batches how is this decided?
5. Will the payment be made separate to pension on the 1st of the month or with our pension.
6. When will this task be completed and we will be informed of payments and amounts.

Response

1. Police revisions associated with the 2024 backdated pay award exercise are expected to be processed in December and paid in January, including arrears.
2. The change to pension benefits will be published on member portals, in the documents section.
3. 296 officers qualify for the 2024 Police backdated pay award.
4. They will be processed in batches in accordance with pay run requirements. It is anticipated that all will be paid within the same pay run.
5. The payment will be made alongside current Police pension payments.
6. The intention is that this will occur in December and January, respectively.
