Scottish Government meeting with Historic Environment Scotland: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

1. The date of the last meeting a member of the Scottish Government had with Historic Environment Scotland.

2. Any minutes prepared relating to that meeting mentioned in (1).

Response

The Scottish Government works closely with Historic Environment Scotland (HES) and meets with HES representatives on a regular basis. On the week commencing 27th October, there were a number of meetings between the two organisations. It is important to note that minutes are only routinely prepared for Ministerial meetings.

The last meeting within the scope of your request was between the Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture and the Chair of Historic Environment Scotland, Sir Mark Jones, on the 28th October 2025.

I have enclosed a copy of the minutes from this meeting.

In this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exemption under section 38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA applies to that information. The reasons why that exemption applies are explained in the Annex to this letter.

ANNEX

An exemption applies

An exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA (personal information) applies to a small amount of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party, i.e. it contains the names and roles of some attendees and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
