Response
Question 1
This is a formal notice under Section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not hold the information you have requested.
It may help if I explain that the Scottish Government does not hold a total cumulative expenditure figure in relation to public body overheads (referred to as “Quangos” in your request), studies and reports regarding Kinloch Castle.
The Scottish Government published the Kinloch Castle Study: Final Report on 8 May 2025 which provided a summary of findings regarding a recent study into the views of residents on the Isle of Rum on the sale of Kinloch Castle and provides additional background that you may find helpful. The cost incurred by the Scottish Government to produce said report totalled £31,220.
Question 2
This is a formal notice under Section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not hold the information you have requested.
It may help if I explain that the Scottish Government does not hold a total cumulative expenditure figure in relation to maintenance and upkeep costs for Kinloch Castle.
You may wish to review the background statement section of the Kinloch Castle study referred to in my response to Question 1 above which provides further information on maintenance costs and can be found here.
You may also wish to submit a request to NatureScot who may be able to provide the information you have requested. Information for contacting NatureScot can be found here.
