Information requested

You asked for information about the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) or Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) by the Digital Academy and, where information is readily available, any associated departments, service units, or partner organisations delivering education, training, or learner support under your authority.

The answer to your question is stated below, also the information was provided by the Scottish Government who are the product owners of the platform that we use in Digital Academy.

Current LMS/VLE Usage

a. What Learning Management System(s) or e-learning platform(s) are currently in use?

Response : Thrive Learning

b. If Moodle or Totara is used, which version is currently implemented?

Response : N/A

c. What are the primary use cases for your LMS/VLE (e.g. internal or external teaching to parents/teachers, staff training, compliance, CPD)?

Response : Used to provide internal staff training and CPD, including compliance training and running training reports.

d. Approximately how many unique users (staff and learners combined) logged into the LMS/VLE at least once during the most recent academic year?

Response : Thrive Learning has a total of 20,226 unique logins from the entirety of the Scottish government.

Procurement and Oversight

a. What are the current contractual arrangements for your LMS/VLE (e.g. start/end dates, and any optional extensions)?

Response : The current contract with Thrive Learning started 25 October 2024 and is due to end 24 October 2026, with a 1 year optional extension.

b. Through which procurement method or framework was the LMS/VLE acquired (e.g. G-Cloud, direct award)?

Response : The procurement framework used for Thrive Learning was G-Cloud.

c. Which department, team, or individual is responsible for managing the LMS/VLE and digital learning strategy?

Response : The SG Capability and Talent Team manage the Thrive Learning platform, and Digital Learning Strategy.

Future Plans

a. Are any reviews, tenders, or procurement activities related to LMS/VLE systems planned within the next 24 months?

Response : Yes. A full review will take place, with appropriate tender and procurement as necessary within the next 24 months.
