Scottish Government writing style guide list of words to avoid: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

You asked for ‘A list of banned words as referred to in the attached style guide as “words to avoid”.’

Response

The information you have requested is available in the Scottish Government Style Guide, which has previously been released to you.

The hyperlink under ‘B - banned words’ takes you further down the style guide to ‘W – words to be avoided’. The link does not go to a separate document. You cannot open the link as it goes to Saltire, the Scottish Government’s intranet, which can only be accessed by staff.

Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not need to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you.

For ease, I am attaching a copy the list of words to be avoided that can be found in the style guide.
