Correspondence between Scottish Ministers and the Herald newspaper: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Copies of correspondence since 1 January 2025 between Scottish Ministers and The Herald newspaper, excluding requests for comment on stories for publication.

Response

We have interpreted this request to involve correspondence to and from Ministers direct, including via their Ministerial email addresses.

I enclose a copy of most of the information you requested in the format you asked for.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exemption under section 38 (1) (b) (personal information) of FOISA applies. This is because the information contains personal data, e.g. names and contact details of individuals.

This exemption is not subject to the public interest test so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing this information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.

It might be helpful to know that other than invitations for Ministers to attend or take part in an event such as those included in this return, most correspondence between the Scottish Government and media organisations is sent and received by the communications department.
